Some of you may already be aware that every year the All-Party Parliamentary Dog Advisory Welfare Group (APDAWG) hosts a unique event to provide a platform for campaigners & lesser-known organisations to help spread awareness of the wonderful work they're doing for dog welfare.
On the evening we also present APDAWG's Philippa Robinson (pic) Dog Welfare Award to someone who's gone over & above to campaign for and promote dog welfare.
This Year's Heroes
Guest speakers incl:
1. Mark Randall & Kate Parker from Naturewatch Foundation discussing animal cruelty, wildlife crime, training cops/others around the world on why animal crimes must be taken seriously, link between animal cruelty/domestic violence, plus the Ukraine war response.
2. Natalia George is founder of incredible Floris Friends Rescue, charity working with both severely disabled dogs & those with behavioural probs, to fully rehabilitate them & getting them wheelchairs to allow them to enjoy their lives.
3. Annie Wilson has launched the #dontbreedblind campaign which asks for all dogs to have breed relevant hereditary health tests prior to breeding & only those with acceptable results to be bred from.
4. Lady Bathurst founded National Foundation for Retired Service Animals charity to support our emergency service animals who keep the public safe throughout their careers & whose work is essential to the Police, Fire, Rescue, Prison & Border Force.
5. Vanessa Waddon is Founder & Senior Head of Ops for Hope Rescue, a dog rescue charity based in S. Wales, working closely with Local Authorities to take in strays & dogs seized from illegal & low welfare breeders.
6. Charlotte Tobin is a multi-award-winning publicist/professional with over a decade of experience in the PR sector. Owned by two dachshunds, Charlotte will describe her new #NoHooksNoCrooks campaign to help reduce dog theft.
7. Josh Walker works as an internal medic at Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists in Winchester & has published research on Cutaneous Renal & Glomerular Vasculopathy (Alabama Rot) & other subjects.
8. Robert Cogswell is Director of Ops for Beagle Freedom Project (UK); the world’s leading organisation for rescuing/rehoming animals used in experimental research. Since 2010, they have have liberated thousands of animals while working to end their abuse through education, advocacy & legislation.
