Every year APDAWG celebrates the incredible work done to improve canine welfare both in the UK and beyond. This year we are truly honoured to host six of the most inspirational individuals working tirelessly for our four-legged friends. Our 2021 speakers are:
Hannah Capon
Canine Arthritis Management (CAM) was developed by Hannah Capon, a vet with wide-ranging experience of working with arthritic dogs, their owners, and fellow professionals to create effective long-term management plans. CAM is committed to promoting better care of our ageing canine friends, and believes that through education the disease can be better tackled to give our dogs longer, healthier lives free from pain. CAM also offers educational talks directed to owners and paraprofessionals, event attendance, consultancy and much more.
Victoria Bryceson
Founded by Victoria Bryceson in 2015, Miracle’s Mission is a UK registered animal welfare charity working to provide safety and support to animals in need worldwide. Working predominantly in the UK, Borneo & Egypt, Miracle’s Mission is ever expanding to help animals in need wherever they can. Miracle’s Mission also educates on the needs of neutering both pets and strays, and rehabilitates and re-home dogs in need, often with disabilities, from their UK rescue base.
Carol Fowler
The Dog Breeding Reform Group (DBRG) is a campaign founded by Carol Fowler for the enactment of legislation to properly protect dogs, and to raise public awareness of the health and welfare problems associated with dog breeding. DBRG would like to see an end to the practice of ‘puppy farming’, the inclusion of animal welfare education within the school curriculum, appropriate health screening, and widespread use of the DBRG 'Standard for Dog Breeding' and AWF Puppy Contract.
Michaela Tanta
Michaela Tanta is co-founder of Sirius Animal Rescue, a charity founded in autumn 2017, based in Romania, whose goals include sterilization and microchipping the stray animals, launching public-private partnership projects in order to set up sociology-medical clinics for stray animals, creating a foster network for abandoned puppy and emergency cases, promoting national/international adoption of stray animals, plus educating about the importance of life, both of human beings and of other living creatures.
Lindsay Fyffe-Jardine
Lindsay Fyffe-Jardine is CEO of Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home (EDCH), a charity who rescue, reunite and rehome dogs and cats across Edinburgh and Lothians, creating a community where unwanted and mistreated animals are given a voice and second chance for a happy and forever home. Recently EDCH launched the Pack in Pet Poverty campaign to raise awareness of a pet poverty crisis, working with foodbanks and community groups, with over 1,300 animals/month now being cared for through this service.
Pen Farthing
Paul 'Pen' Farthing served in the Royal Marines for 22 years, and was sent to Afghanistan after an earlier deployment in Iraq. He left the service in 2009, two years after setting up Nowzad in Kabul, the charity named after a dog rescued from a dogfight. Nowzad has been transporting animals from Afghanistan to the UK for 14 years, including reuniting many armed services personnel with the animals they adopted while posted in the region. Pen became a household name this summer, overcoming various hurdles, and masterminding the successful #OperationArk to rescue both animals and staff members from Nowzad’s rescue shelter in Kabul.
As always, we will be presenting one of our Unsung Heroes with the Philippa Robinson Award for Dog Welfare, so APDAWG hopes you'll join us for what will be a unique and special evening.
